window Tutorial #1

June 29, 2010

t for tutorial

Okay, I’ve been saving this tutorial for sometime now (don’t ask why, just sounded like a good excuse for being lazy)! Back in the fall, I had the chance to snag several windows from an old house which was being torn down on my road. This is one of a couple ideas I had and hope you find it useful if you happen to have any old windows lying around or stumble across. Also, this will be the 1st in a series of window tutorials I have planned!!!

Step 1: Grab an old window.

Step 2: Wash the surface dirt off. At this point, if you choose, you can add a fresh coat of paint. As you might recall in my past tutorials… I’m just plain lazy!

First things first on any old window… WASH it!!! My guess is these windows are so old that there might be a ting of lead in them, so if you have little ones crawling (or chewing) around, I would defiantly keep them at bay while working here!!! I would also suggest when finished, hang your final project high enough so they can’t chew on later. {This goes for pets as well as youngins.}

Step 3: Get out the elbow grease.

Now the “Hot Tool Man” is mine, and no you can’t borrow him (I was lucky to have him help and happily pose for pictures here)! You can obviously do all these steps by yourself or have some “Hot Chick” help, if you’re into that sort of thing or think it would help your ratings (he he he).

Step 4: Scrape off the old caulk. We used a simple putty knife here.

Step 5: Pop out the glass. I have to admit, Shane does makes this look easy! I’m sure if it were me at the helm, there would be a hammer and glass shards everywhere!!!

PLEASE NOTE: I would like to add here for those of you which don’t have much common sense… WEAR EYE PROTECTION!!!

Step 6: Add hanging hardware (missed that photo op) and hang on your beautiful wall!!!

With my completed project, I used my window to hang tissue/wrapping paper at my “wrapping station” and yes… it coordinates with the room ;) . You could also hang hand towels in a bathroom (over a toilet would be cute) or magazines/newspapers in a living room!

Please let me know if you like this and would LOVE to see pictures if you choose to do this yourself!!!
